Leukemia Fund Drive to Be Held in Zebulon Through May 20 Mrs. Woodrow Pippin and Miss Lillian Kannon will head up the Zebulon-Wendell phase of a na tional leukemia fund drive through May 20. C The announcement was made last week by the state co-director of Alsac (Aiding Leukemia Strick en American Children), Miss Kannon. This national non-sectarian charitable group was founded by TV star Danny Thomas to maintain the basic and clinical research pro gram of St. Jude Hospital of Mem phis, Tenn. The seiiior class of Wakelon School and Y. W. A. girls of Zebu Ion Baptist Church have planned a city-wide “March with Danny” canvass on May 7. May 8 through 19 will be camnis ter days, Miss Kannon said. May /12, tag day, and May 13, road block, which Police Chief Willie B. Hopkins has given his full co operation. Miss Kannon urges you to please give to fight the dread killer, leu kemia. Marriage To Take Place Saturday P.M. The marriage of Miss Norma Faye Hood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert G. Hood, to Thom as Gray Timberlake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Timberlake of Route 3, Zebulon, will take place Saturday afternoon at five o’clock at Union Chapel Baptist Church. A bounteous supper was served to 50 people. Plato Monk and Philip Mealer were visitors in Marboro, Md., the past week. Myron Jenkins, brother of Mrs. Leslie Braudwell, continues ill at Duke Hospital. Charles Wootton is improving after kidney surgery at Rex Hos pital last week. Mrs. G. P. Conoley and Mrs. Plato Monk visited Mrs. C. S. Foshee in Zebulon last Thursday. Miss Jane Dail and Howard Rowe of Raleigh were Thursday night dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Coley. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Whitlock ar rived home Sunday from Union, S. C., after visiting Mrs. Whitlock’s brother. Mrs. Kelly Hunter accompanied her brother, Edgar Mitchell, of Mettor, Ga., to Baltimore, Md., where Mr. Mitchell is recovering from treatments on his throat. He is greatly improved. Rev. and Mrs. Roy McCormick and two children are spending a 3 weeks vacation in Deland, Fla. Judge Crawford, stationed at Ft. Jackson, S. C., spent the weekend with his wife in the home of Mrs. Crawford’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bailey. Robert L. Raybon will deliver the sermon at the Presbyterian Church next Sunday. Mr. Raybon is a teacher in the Cary High School. Mrs. Willard Raper and daugh ter visited in Rocky Mount last Sunday. Mrs. Ethel Gerald spent last week in Greensboro with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Linville Roach. Mr. and Mrs. Plato Monk spent Sunday in New Bern with Rev. and Mrs. Scott Poole. Mr. and Mrs. George Seay and children of Winston-Salem spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Leslie Alligood. Mrs. Graham Dean and Mrs. Pearl Wall spent the weekend in Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Hanna and three children of New Orleans, La., arrived last Tuesday for a visit with her mother, Mrs. G. H. Scar borough. Mrs. Gladys Griffin of Smith field is a patient at Woodard-Her ring Hospital in Wilson, suffering from a virus infeption. Willard Lee Kennedy is a pa tient at Rex Hospital for diagnostic treatment. Mrs. Lillian Grady of Wilson and Mrs. Lillian Stacy of Lumber ton were guests Monday of Mrs. W. A. Scarborough. Francis Dew, A. S. Johnston, Clarence Kirk, and Buck Bunn of Raleigh spent three days last week on a fishing trip at Colum bia, N. C. Mrs. G. W. Miller of Raleigh is visiting her sisters, Mrs. S. T. Dodd and Mrs. H. F. Tunnell. Mrs. Roland Heath who has been suffering with her eyes is teaching part time. Will IJarnes Fowler returned from Duke Hospital Tuesday after receiving treatment for injury re ceived from a fall. Burke Smith was confined to his home the past week by illness. Rev. William H. Vinson, Jr., ap peared on the program “Church of Our Fathers” Sunday, April 30, i at 1:00 on channel 5, Raleigh. William Tunstall is confined to Rex Hospital suffering from stom ach ulcers. • Miss Linda Horton was hostess to her friends at her home on Wendell Route 2 Saturday night, April 22 at 8:00. The home was decorated with lovely spring flow ers. Dancing was enjoyed by all. Refreshments consisting of sand wiches, cookies, nuts and drinks were served to the following guests: Anitra Todd, Sally Buch anan, Celeste Jeffreys, Jane Cham blee, Mike Coley, James Richard Scarboro, Sid Baynes, Cornell Powers, Marshall Roberts and the hostess, Linda Horton. Mrs. Mack Roberts entertained her bridge club at her home Fri day, April 28, at 10:00. After three progressions, prizes were awarded to Mrs. Bill C. Rob erts, high, and Mrs. Bill Parrish, 2nd high. Guest Mrs. H. Lee Swan son, of Raleigh was given a gift. All were presented jewelry. Others members playing were Mrs. Billy Weathers, Mrs. Curtis Todd, Mrs. John Mafttox, M'aj. Richard Brantley and Mrs. Ray Wicker. A luncheon plate with a des sert course was served the guests. • Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tongue enter tained their Couples Bridge Club at their home on Main Street last Friday night at 7:00. A ham plate and apple pie ala mode were served to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ammons, Mr. and Mrs. War ren Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Britt, Mr. and Mrs. Donald W. Thomas. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bill C. Roberts. After three progressions Mrs. Roberts and Bill Ammons were presented high score prizes. • Mr. and Mrs. Everette Ledford, Jr., were hosts to their Saturday Night Couples Bridge Club at their home on Wall Street. Members playing were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Green, Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Bridgers and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dean. The Norman Deans received high score and Mr. and Mrs. Shel ton Bridgers, second high. Strawberry short cake and cof fee were served during the social hour. The Night Circle of the Presby terian Church met Monday night at 8:00 with Mrs. Milton Croom in Knightdale. Mrs. Croom was program lead er. Miss Hazel Taylor held the Bible Study and Mrs. Judy Den ton Tead the Scripture. Mrs. Wm. Thornton closed the meeting with prayer. Nine members were pres ent. Guests were Mrs. Harley Hopkins, Mrs. Silas Todd and Mrs. Richard Brantley. Mrs. Clark received high for the club and Mrs. Britt, second high. Mrs. Brantley received guest prize. Angel chocolate cake and coffee were served during the social hour. Engagement Announced Miss Martha Jane Driver is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thur man Driver of Zebulon, who an nounce her engagement to Kenneth Oneal Eddins, son of Mrs. Har old Eddins and the late Mr. Eddins of Zebulon. An August wedding is planned. Hales Chapel Mrs. Annie Driver who makes her home with the Troy Narrons of Antioch is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. Ella Price, and Mrs. Maybelle Eatman. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chamblee and children visited his brother, the Neil Chamblees, and family of Wendell Sunday afternoon. The Clio Vanns spent Sunday in Littleton with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Mrs. Rosa Creech, Mrs. Sipsie Creech and Mrs. Modell Parrish attended the annual WMU Asso ciational meeting in Selma last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Vaiden Richardson visited his brotheT, the Kirkman Richardsons, of Raleigh Sunday afternoon. Millard Strickland is out of work this week with a knee injury. Mrs. Jean Lewis and her friend, Kathy, of Wilmington spent a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. Siddie Bailey, and Mrs. Pauline Strickland. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Brown and Mrs. Pauline Strickland vis ited Mrs. Geraldine Strickland of Zebulon Sunday afternoon who was ill. The A. G. Creeehes and son, An drew, visited their daughter, Ann, at Kinston Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Braxton Gregory and family and the Billy Ray Creeehes of Raleigh were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Will Creech. The Arthur Creeehes visited their son, Exum, at Johnston Me morial Hospital Monday afternoon. Miss Peggy Lee of Atlantic Christian College spent the week end with her mother, Mrs. Wade Lee. Peggy’s friend. Butch Lowery of the college was a Sunday guest. The G. H. Bells and daughter of Clayton visited her parents, the Roy Browns Sunday. Mrs. Moore Hocutt and son, Bil ly, called on her mother, Mrs. Lucy Driver Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hinton and family were Sunday afternoon vis itors of his sister, the Joshua Dri vers. Dwight Driver along with the other athletic club members and cheer leaders of Corinth school went to Parkers in Wilson last Friday night for supper. The Aaron Johnson family of Raleigh and Mrs. Meecie Hocutt of Tabernacle visited the Clemon Johnson family Sunday afternoon Most of the important insect pests in the U.
